Local Love: Mother's Day Gifts
Alison Pegg
In need of some last minute gift ideas for the #1 lady in your life?
Some of the best Mother’s Day gifts are the ones that come from home right here in Columbus. Even better? They’re all easily acquired before Sunday’s big day.
Here are some of my local faves that would make great recommendations:
Food & Drink
The Vegetable Butcher: from the ladies behind Little Eater, the North Market stand that has some of the freshest and best salad and sammies around. Share with Mom owner Cara Mangini’s Little Eater recipe with her cookbook, The Vegetable Butcher, so you and mom can nosh on her eats for years to come.
Root 23 Simple Syrups: set mom up to be sipping in style for the rest of summer. Whether she’s into cocktail or mocktails, these Root 23 syrups are perfect for mixing with Mom’s favorite fizzy beverage or spirit.
Jeni’s: can you really go wrong with a gift from Jeni’s? Grab a couple pints and some sauces for an ice cream party at home, or even better, gift her a subscription to their pint club so your gift keeps giving long past Mother’s Day. Just make sure to grab an extra gift card so you two can hit up a scoop shop together for some Mom time in the future.
Home & Jewelry
Stump: if you haven’t yet made it over to Stump in Italian Village, maybe grabbing a gift for Mom is your perfect excuse to go check them out. Just stalk their instagram and you’ll find a gift for her that she’ll love, from a succulent to a fig tree, everything they carry has that cool modern vibe that she doesn't know will be the perfect fit in her office or home.
Red Giraffe Designs: Already headed to Gallery Hop on Saturday? Stop in to this little gem in the Short North and pick up something for Mom at the same time. Whether she’s into graphic designs or sentimental mementos, there’s a piece here that the she’ll treasure. The hardest part is always what to choose!
Pluma Jewelry: sometimes Mom needs a statement piece that will last her forever. Pluma’s stone jewelry is just that. A modern mix of stones and minerals designed around shiny tough metal, these pieces are conversations starters and showstoppers and ones that she’ll wear anytime she wants to feel extra special. Stop by your local THREAD to pick one up in person (as if you need a another reason to stop by there to begin with!)
Experiences
Studio Movie Grill: My favorite theatre in Columbus, this place is perfect to spend quality time with the lady who’s been in your life the longest. Whether you’ll see the latest Captain America or Mother’s Day is up to you, but you can count on good food and good company in one of Columbus’ oft-overlooked theatres.
Olliver Lifestyle Candles: If you haven’t yet had the chance to smell an Olliver candle, you need to. Handmade from vegan soy wax, they’re scent combinations are unique and amazing. But instead of just buying Mom one of these, how about pouring them together at Olliver’s collab with Under Aurora? In only two hours you’ll develop your very own soy candle to take home and enjoy.
Columbus Museum of Art: whether Mom is in Columbus or has plans to visit you, how about a little culture and some food to treat her? Free on Sundays but amazing anytime, the Columbus Museum of Art is great place for the two of you to stroll and chat by the art and spend some quality time together. And don’t forget the museum’s Schokko Art Cafe. This café operated by Cameron Mitchell has some serious good (and healthy) eats, a perfect cap to your gallery strolls.
